I kept seeing “Bonfire” on must-read lists.
“The past is a trick of the mind. It’s a story we misunderstand over and over.”
Abby Williams, an environmental lawyer, is forced to return to the little town she left in the rearview mirror. It’s 10 years later, and the now Chicago lawyer is back to investigate Barren’s biggest company Optimal Plastics.
As she digs for answers, she remembers bits and pieces of her life before. Memories that might solve the disappearance of Kaycee Mitchell, a friend turned enemy. And it looks like the clues all lead back to a ritual called ‘The Game.”
It’s a fun, quick read. Parts of the story were a bit predictable. However, there was just enough suspense to keep me reading.
